Make your own granola
A recipe for a successful and fun breakfast or snack!

Pre-made granolas can be tasty, but making your own is a much better choice, for several reasons. It's a savvy trick to cut grocery expenses, you are in control of what goes into your granola (i.e. no icky preservatives and other stuff you don't want in there), there's a million varieties (only your imagination can stop you), it's healthy and it's super fun, easy and quick to make! You might already have most of the necessary ingredients in your kitchen!

Here's a basic recipe to get you started, this one is protein packed with lots of nuts, seeds and good stuff to keep you fueled, happy and healthy. Once you start you'll never go back to the store bought stuff!

Homemade Granola

Step by step

Start with the ingredients. You can add anything you like to your granola, here are some suggestions: various nuts, shredded coconut, flaxseed, cinnamon, raisins and other dried fruits, honey or agave syrup, peanut butter, chocolate chips, puffed quinoa, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds… the possibilities are endless!

Fill a mixing bowl with your basics, I started out with puffed quinoa and plain sesame seeds. I used about one cup in total.

Now add your other dry ingredients like spices, dried fruits, nuts, shredded coconut, chocolate chips and flaxseeds. I had raisins, slivered almonds, cinnamon, shredded coconut and crushed flaxseeds in mine. I didn't use any measurements (that's what makes it so fun!) but to give you an estimate, I'd suggest about 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon, 1/4 cup of the raisins, and the same for the shredded coconut and slivered almonds.

Next, add your "wet" ingredients. I used about a teaspoon of thick organic honey (feel free to use agave syrup or other syrup, this adds some sweetness and helps create those yummy "lumps") and a tablespoon of organic peanut butter.

Start by mixing with a spoon and then dig in with your hands to really incorporate it all. And with that — you're done! Easy, protein&345;packed, fun, healthy and it only takes you about ten minutes to make a big batch of it. Store it in the fridge if you're going to be keeping it for a while.
