The Fashtastic Project
Fashtastic - Fashion and compassion

During your last year of high school in Sweden you are obliged to complete a
final project. This final project can be almost anything of your choice but
naturally it is necessary that there is a goal in mind and a question in which
you base your research on.
As my great interest is fashion I certainly wanted it to be a part of my final
project. When we were told we had to make our choice of what we would like to
work with I thought of Fashtastic. It had been up and running for almost one
year at the time and was still increasingly popular (still counting the numbers
as we speak!). I knew that if I chose to use Fashtastic as my final project it
would definitely keep me motivated to work as I have been making websites and
writing about fashion for several years now, all on my own free time, so having it
as a school project would be like practicing my interest during school time.
I had a problem with this idea though; what goal did I want to accomplish in
continuing with Fashtastic as my final project? And what question would I use as
a base for my research? I decided I had to combine the fashion aspect of my
website with something more serious. I have always been very interested in
teenager's health, especially the psychological aspect of it. I tried to narrow
it down to certain areas within teenager's psychological health.
After extensive pondering I came to the conclusion that I wanted to combine
Fashtastic the fashion website with information about eating disorders. I decided I
would have all the usual fashion articles and editorials as I always have had on
the website but I would combine it with a section devoted to information about eating disorders.
I want to give as much information as possible without sounding too formal in
what I write. I do not want Fashtastic to be just like any other website about
eating disorders, I want the information to grasp the reader in the sense that they feel
they can understand and feel compassion. My idea is to try to include as many
true stories as possible and as much down-to-earth information as possible from
real people that have experienced an eating disorder.
The slogan "Fashion and compassion" came to mind when I was trying to think of a
fun rhyming slogan that would describe exactly what Fashtastic now is about.
I hope that both people suffering from an eating disorder and people standing by them or even people
that have no connection at all to anyone with an eating disorder, will be able to benefit from the
information I supply here at Fashtastic. I also hope that you will consider
donating some money to The National Eating Disorders Association in order to help
out. Information may help people suffering from an eating disorder understand their
condition but it is still not enough to help them recover.
Please also take some
time to view our Help out page and read how you can help make Fashtastic as
useful as possible for all people. I am only one person and thereby there is
only so much I can do, imagine the changes we could all make if we work
together.
