Important words to know associated to the disease

I have assembled various key words associated with anorexia nervosa and eating
disorders in general. This is in order for you to gain a better understanding
for the words so that you can then better understand the contents of articles regarding
anorexia nervosa.
a•men•or•rhe•a: Absence of menstrual periods.
(also spelled a•men•or•rhoe•a)
binge eating: A pattern of eating large quantities of food in a short
period of time.
purg•ing: The use of vomiting or other techniques to empty the stomach
of food.
hy•per•ac•tive: Over exercising, characterized by over activity
an•o•rex•ic: Suffering from or afflicted with anorexia nervosa
an•o•rec•tic: Of or affected with anorexia nervosa, suppressing or loss
of apetite
an•o•rex•i•gen•ic: Promoting or causing anorexia nervosa
self-im•posed star•va•tion: Starvation caused by oneself, voluntarily
assumed or endured
bulimia ner•vo•sa: An eating disorder, common especially among young
women of normal or nearly normal weight, that is characterized by episodic
binge eating and followed by feelings of guilt, depression, and
self-condemnation. It is often associated with measures taken to prevent weight
gain, such as self-induced vomiting, the use of laxatives, dieting, or fasting.
Also called bulimarexia, bulimia nervosa.
treat•ment re•sis•tance: To deny or resist medical treatment that will
allow one to recover from an eating disorder
or•tho•rex•ia: an obsession with eating only `healthy' food; also called
orthorexia nervosa
ED-NOS: Stands for; Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. An
eating disorder that cannot be specified as being one single type of eating
disorder. Example: Involved in both anorexic and bulimic behavior (also called
Bulimirexic)
