In the first Fashtastic Prom Feature I told you about what I plan to wear for prom and gave you some tips of what to think about when heading out to find your own perfect prom dress. This second installment will guide you through some of the dress alternatives available and also give you some tips on dress styles that will suit your shape and height.

Why this style is good: As you may already know, the color black is slimming. Strapless dresses are a classic style for prom and a popular alternative. This dress has a cute shape to it and a nice bow around the waist which will compliment your waist. The dress also has a corset-like style so it will shape your waist giving you nice curves. The bottom frill detail is cute; it adds a little character to the dress, ruffles (or frills, whichever you prefer) are a common thread when it comes to prom dresses.

Why this style is good: This dress is very classy and feminine; the details around the bust are very flattering and add character to the dress. If you want to disguise your cleavage slightly you should opt for a dress in this style as the straight cut neck-line will cover up and disguise it. This is also a good alternative if you do not like strapless dresses, the thin straps on this dress add a touch of glamour to it.

Why this style is good: White and cream colors are big this spring, this dress is adorable and very feminine with its bow tied around the waist and its flowy style. The sash is both cute and serves a good purpose as it is placed high on your waist making your legs look longer. The deep v-neck line is good if you have a smaller bust you would like to accentuate. The length of the dress is also very flattering.

Why this style is good: A good color, as mentioned, however adding an accessory in a bold color will add character to your outfit making it interesting as opposed to plain. This babydoll-style dress is great if you want to disguise your hips, it is loose and flowy with the silk tie directly under the bust which accentuates the thinnest point of your upper body while leaving the dress loose around your curvier areas. This dress is also a great because (as above) it will make your legs look endless.

Why this style is good: This style is good because it is so flattering and feminine (which isn’t very surprising considering its a Matthew Williamson design!) The shifting shades of purple and the sequins around the waist and bust make this piece eye catching. The high waist will make your legs look long and also make you look taller. The details on this dress make it perfect for prom.

Why this style is good: This dress is a great color for prom, prom dresses are often in very bright and shimmering colors with some glitter details. This color is also big this spring and summer so you’ll be following a trendy color scheme as well. The flowy skirt of this dress and the bow tied around the thinnest point of your upper body will disguise your hips and stomach as well as (once again) make your legs look long.

Why this style is good: I chose this dress because I found it to be quite unique; the interesting tulle layer over the aqua color is very pretty. The detailing at the waist brings it in while the tulle disguises your bust slightly, showing off just the right amount of skin. This dress is cute because of its creative way of making it look like a strapless dress yet not at the same time. It is also quite mysterious with its semi-disguised areas.

Why this style is good: This dress is a gorgeous style for prom with its classy colors and cute sequin details. The halter neck style is great as it supports the bust and the neck line is cut very nicely showing off just the right amount of cleavage. There are several plus size alternatives available!
