Get the look: Selma Blair
Classically refined or mod-squad chic, this stylish celeb deserves more credit
By Christina Eriksson 9th May 2006
Style icons have become increasingly important in recent years, given the rise
in media attention on celebrity style. Today there are icons left and right,
from Mischa Barton and Nicole Richie to timeless icons of the past such as
Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Everyone has their own personal source of
inspiration, and many of us favour several style icons at once.
Selma Blair (33) is one celebrity who tends to wind up in the outskirts mass
media attention. She’s not hounded by the press as many other celebrities are.
Nonetheless, one could say her fashion sense is even more developed than her
much photographed contemporaries.
Born in Michigan, Selma first studied acting in the prestigious Stella Adler
School and has gone on to appear in over 27 feature length films. She is most
recognized for her roles in Cruel Intentions (1999) and Legally Blonde (2001).
More recently you may have seen her biking around with her fiancé, Ahmet Zappa
(son of the famous rocker).
Her style could be described as modern-Hepburn, favouring classically tailored
looks in black, white and jewel tones. Though she updates her look with
current staples (such as skinny jeans), she almost always gives a nod to a time
of more classic styling with ribbon trim, quilted handbags, or softly crocheted
separates. But don’t be fooled: Selma Blair is a mod-chick! Just check out
her must have Converse shoes. The overall effect is effortlessly
fashionable--New York meets Los Angeles.
