Summer, beaches, sunshine, water and volleyball – ah! Is that a sigh of relief or a terrified scream? Many of us dread the beach because we are embarrassed to show off our bodies with nothing but a small piece of elastic protecting us. We look around us and feel as though we are not good enough because the girl next to us is at least two sizes smaller, or is she? It’s all in the swimsuit ladies! So stop mourning and start hunting down your perfect suit for this summer. You look great, your body is perfect - you’ve just got a bad swimsuit is all! Fashtastic is here to show you how you can get the right fit to suit your body and look more gorgeous than anyone on the beach this summer! Also including some tips on where to get certain styles.

“My legs are so short”
Invest in a swimsuit that is cut high on the leg, this will make your legs look longer and flatter them. Do not go for boy shorts or any type of skirts or cover-ups, they’ll just chop your legs off and make them look even shorter. Another great tip is to focus the attention on your upper body, meaning you should try to invest in a swimsuit or bikini with the focus on the bust area. Try to find something with a pattern or design on top while leaving the bottom in a solid color.

“I have a really long body shape and look like a giant on the beach”
Definitely stay away from vertical stripes as they will make you look even taller. Focus the attention on your hip area, boy shorts, skirts, cover-ups and anything like it are perfect for a long body shape. Opposite to someone with short legs you should focus the attention (meaning patters, designs etc.) to your hip area, i.e the bottom of your bikini. Do not invest in a swimsuit or bikini in a solid color as this will make you look longer, go wild with the colors and patterns.

“I’m really wide on top, my shoulders are like Hercules!”
It is all about leveling out, if you’re wide on top (meaning your shoulders are rather wide) then focus the attention to your lower body investing in a bikini bottom with a lot of detail such as sashes, rings, patterns, buttons or anything else similar to these. Styles like this will even your body out more. Do not wear a bikini with a lot of attention to your upper body and shoulders. And do not wear a small bikini bottom as this will only make you look wider on top.

“I’ve got a straight body shape with no curves at all and no waist!”
If you’ve got a straight body shape, meaning your hips are straight then you want to focus the attention to your hips once again using patterns, belts, sashes, rings and other designs to draw the attention to your hips. One piece bathing suits with ruffles or ties around the waist area will also give the illusion of curves. As with short legs you’ll benefit from wearing a swimsuit that is cut high on the leg/thigh.

“I’m plus size, nothing fits me!”
Realize your beauty; there are so many alternatives for you. Several shops and online stores specialize in plus size swimsuits that look just like any other swimsuit only these are in realistic sizes. Some things for you to think about; go for dark colors as opposed to bright shimmering colors like white as darker colors are slimming, black is always great. A deep neckline is flattering on the bust. Avoid any swimsuits with a lot of extra details such as frills and extra flowing cloth. A nice sarong can be complimentary to your shape and swimsuit. If you would rather go for a bikini look into tankinis, they’re great as they cover the areas we most often hate showing off while still being a two piece swimsuit. Avoid focusing the attention to your hips by wearing your details on top, this will draw the attention upward. A cute skirt bikini bottom is great for you if you want to cover up your hip and thigh area, just don’t get one with a lot of patterns and detail, go for a solid color. A skirt bottom with a lot of detail will have the opposite effect than what you are striving for as it will draw the attention downwards towards your thighs and hips.

“I’ve got a big/small bust…how can I accentuate it or cover it up?”
A small bust can be accentuated with a bra-style bikini top that has a wire inset or extra padded cups. A smaller triangle style bikini can also show off what you’ve got. Bandeau bikini tops are also great for someone with a small bust, focus the attention on your top by wearing a top piece with details or pattern.

If you’ve got a large bust and wish to cover it up you should go definitely avoid bandeau style bikini tops as they are too small for you and offer no support. Invest in a top or one-piece swimsuit with wide straps or a halter neck which will offer support. A bra-style bikini top that is styled to offer support is great. If you wish to hide your cleavage you should invest in a one piece swimsuit with a straight cut bust/neckline, this will cover your bust and cleavage.

Other things to consider...
As with most popular seasonal items, be out ahead of time to have a big selection to choose from. If you are out ahead of time you’ll have the luxury of choosing from several sizes and styles and will not have to worry about your size being sold out. If you are buying a bikini, don’t buy a set, use the tips above and choose a separate top and bottom that will suit your shape and body.

Most important of all, remember that you are gorgeous and you can look and feel it too once you get the right swimsuit to fit your body - everyone will envy you!
