5 Beach Reads
Lazy days call for some easy reading

Looking for Andrew McCarthy by Jenny Colgan
I read this during a boring summer a few years ago, at the time I had nothing
better to do and found this book to be the most exciting thing within my
vicinity.
Ellie sets out to find her dream man (Andrew McCarthy, 80’s Brat Pack movie
star) hoping that he will have the answers to her life-questions, like what in
the world went wrong? Ellie had dreamed of living the high-life by adulthood
but once hitting it she realized her life was nothing like she had expected.
She heads off to Hollywood without a real plan in mind, unless you call “find
Andrew McCarthy” a real plan…
It’s an easy read and a fun one, too. Definitely one to throw in your beach
bag.
The A-list by Zoey Dean
If you love scouring the internet for the latest news on a-list celebrities,
you’ll love this chick-lit read.
Anna Percy has spent twelve years in prep school with exceptional grades, her
life has been good but much too boring and she’s had it. She sets off to LA to
stay with her father in hopes of finding some excitement in a city away from
home. On the flight, before even reaching her destination she meets Ben
Birnbaum. Lucky for Anna, he’s appears to be the missing link in her life--the
excitement she’s been longing for. That is, until she meets Ben’s friends
Cammie, Sam and Dee.
This book is much like an episode or two of The Simple Life, with a spice of
Hollywood rumors. A great pseudo-celeb read!
Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar
Surely most of you have already heard of the Gossip Girl series, another one of
those Hollywood a-list reminders, a look into the life of the jet-set, rich and
famous.
Gossip Girl keeps her readers updated on the latest in her realm, New York
City’s Upper East Side, where she and her friends live, go to school, play and
sleep – sometimes with each other. This scandalous novel is jam-packed with
stories of jealousy and betrayal, it makes you feel like you are one of the
girls in the “in”-gang. You are the first to find out everything that happens,
thanks to Gossip Girl’s updates. This year, “S” is back from boarding school,
and that means one thing – watch your back.
The Truth About Diamonds by Nicole Richie
Hollywood socialite, Nicole Richie, has written her own novel. Needless to
say, it is eerily similar to some of the Hollywood rumors that have been
circulating concerning the author in question and some ex-girlfriends of
hers.
In her debut novel, Nicole Richie tells the story of her friend, Chloe Parker,
who is on her way to becoming famous for being famous. Not completely unlike
Richie herself, Chloe Parker winds up in a row of drug addictions followed by a
28-day rehab visit and a successful “TV-commercial-reality-show”. Although
Nicole Richie (yes, she plays her own character in the novel) is Chloe’s
closest and best friend, her reality TV contract is with another socialite,
Simone Westlake. You can only guess who Simone is supposed to represent…
Set aside your gossip magazine! If you want to know what’s really going on
behind the scenes, past the VIP screens and red ropes, this is a novel for
you.
Looking for JJ by Anne Cassidy
If you are sick of chick-lit beach novels and would rather spend your time
reading something with a little more depth and excitement to it, Looking for
JJ is the perfect choice.
Alice Tully is your average teenage girl; she works at a café, has a wonderful
boyfriend and lives with a caring, older roommate named Rosie. She feels like
all the pieces of her life have just started to fall into place when the news
hits: Jennifer Jones has been released after six years in prison and the media
are considering her to be very dangerous. Engulfed by the news on JJ, Alice’s
life takes a turn for the worse.
An exciting and eye-opening story. You’ll read this from cover to cover
without putting it down!
