Interview with Pink Cookies
Fashtastic interviewed Mylah Tolentino of Pink Cookies
By Christina Eriksson 8th September 2005
Pink Cookies is a cool company that specializes in air-brush painting tees,
tanks, underwear, caps and more! Interested in making unique tees for your
sports team, or caps for you and your friends? Pink Cookies is a great
alternative as the items come out much more exciting and unique than plain old
text marks on tees. Fashtastic got the chance to interview Mylah Tolentino of
Pink Cookies. Here is what she has to say about the company.
When did you start up Pink Cookies?
We launched Pink Cookies officially July 4th Weekend 2001.
Pink Cookies is a fun name, what is the story behind the name?
As Carlisa, Izumi and I were brainstorming on a name that would represent who we
are, the song “Pink Cookies in a plastic bag” by L.L. Cool J came on the radio.
It was the moment we were waiting for and Pink Cookies came alive.
What inspired you and your friends to start Pink Cookies?
We always knew we wanted to work together. Every time one of us was involved in
anything at all we were supportive and involved. We knew we were on to something
when we would get together and the ideas for design just flowed. We each bring
something different to the Pink Cookies vibe. That’s what makes each design so
special.
Sometimes working with friends on a project can be difficult as everyone
sometimes wants different things, did you find this to be a problem between you
and your co-founders?
The key is communication. We talk about everything. We make decisions together
and most of all we trust and respect each other. Since there are three of us
it’s a great balance.
Have any celebrities purchased any of your products?
We’ve had the opportunity to work with the Pussycat Dolls on a few projects.
You can also see our clothing in the movie “Bringing Down the House” with Queen
Latifah. We collaborate with various talents for live performances, feature
films and special events. I would love for Gwen Stefani to wear a Pink Cookies
outfit. So... spread the word and let her know :)
You have a lot of cool designs available in your online shop, what is your
favorite design currently available in your online shop?
My personal favorite is the Bling Line. I like it because it’s street yet sexy.
What is the most popular/most sold item of all your Pink Cookies items?
The “phish tail” is a favorite of ours and often times we receive special
requests for this piece. It has a sexy cut out and of course has Pink Cookies in
vibrant colors across the front. The great thing about Pink Cookies is that
there’s something for everyone. You can choose an item from our line that
relates to your personal style or be creative and personalize an outfit of your
own through our custom section.
What inspirations do you have when creating your items?
It’s a collaboration of our own personal style mixed with inspiration from our
love of music, art and culture. Our goal is to make each person feel special in
a Pink Cookies outfit. We put time, effort and love in our garments. Those that
wear our clothes inspire us.
What celebrity would you love to see in Pink Cookies items?
I would love to see Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Angelina Jolie... just to name a
few.
And finally, you customize some of your items according to your visitor’s
wishes; what is the funniest or strangest thing you have had someone ask you to
make on one of your items?
I have to say we have some very creative and funny people as customers. The
custom designs are fun because you have the freedom to express yourself. They
have all been funny and strange in their own way.
A big thank you to Pink Cookies for sending me a customized FASHTASTIC ribbed
tank and a cool Pink Cookies logo tee! I love them! See pictures for details.
