Bakelite Bits by Aileen Ward
Jewelry with a funky twist
By Chirstina Eriksson 15th August 2005
In 1907 scientist Dr. Leo Baekeland came upon the combination of carbolic acid
and formaldehyde that, when it hardens, becomes what we today call Bakelite.
Bakelite is a very durable plastic that also has a very beautiful vintage look.
Aileen Ward loves Bakelite so much that she designs jewelry with it. Her
beautiful line of jewelry is titled Bakelite Bits.
Upon receiving my Bakelite Bits necklace from Aileen Ward several positive
thoughts came to mind. The necklace is created in the perfect colors for fall,
with small golden leaves and beads in two shades of green all elegantly
surrounded by the wine bakelite ring. I always say that accessories can make
any outfit stand out and look unique and this especially applies to Bakelite
Bits. The pieces are so unique that you will not find anything else like it
around. It really makes the simplest outfit stand out and attract compliments.
Aileen Ward personally designs and hand-crafts each piece of jewelry. She is
open to suggestions and willing to make something extra special for you
according to your ideas. Aside from necklaces Aileen Ward designs bracelets and
earrings, also just as unique and exciting as her necklaces.
Although some of her items are quite pricey they are worth it considering the
durability of the materials she uses. Do not worry that because the items are
pricey they are too classy to wear casually. Bakelite bits can be used both for
party and work to spice up and outfit. And to add to the fun of it each piece
is delivered in a beautiful gift box free of charge.
